The National Electoral Council (NEC) said on Wednesday that campaigning for the on-going local government elections are proceeding peacefully across the country, NEC’s Executive Secretary, Charles Munyaneza, said yesterday.
He told The New Times that his Commission had not received any report of misconduct.
According to Munyaneza, NEC was preparing for the Sunday February 13 polls in which both women and persons with disabilities would elect their representatives to the national councils in the two social segments.
He said that preparations for the February 21 elections for councillors at sector level are on track. Winners of these elections will form the advisory and administrative councils at the district level.
"We have distributed the voters’ cards to at least 95 percent of the electorate,” he said. "Currently, we are printing ballot papers and we will be ready before the date.”
