The outgoing Kigali City Mayor, Dr Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, has received praise remarks from various city residents and KCC employees who described her as a hardworking leader.

In an interview with The New Times, her former employees, attributed Kigali City current recommendable status to Kirabo’s visionary leadership.

This comes amid recent reports from the Mayor that she had not presented her candidature and hence not going to contest for re-election

According to Issa Muvunyi, who works at KCC as a social protection expert, the Mayor has tremendously improved infrastructural set up in the city, enabled and maintained cleanliness, endorsed education and successfully mobilized citizens to participate in various development activities.

"She has improved the road network, spearheaded the Kigali Master Plan that gives the city a 50-year vision, enhanced investments in various sectors, and embarked on civic education to enhance citizen’s participation in the country’s affairs,” he said.

Muvunyi explained that all the achievements have made Kigali as one of the fastest developing cities in the world.
He noted that throughout her tenure, the Mayor had always been a hard worker who involved people at various levels in the decision making process, and rewarded highly performing staff.

"During her leadership, Kigali has established partnerships with various global cities like Johannesburg and Durban (South Africa), Mainz (Germany), Oklahoma (USA), and other regional capitals to foster development,” commended Muvunyi.

Another KCC employee, Charles Rusimbi, who is in charge of Youth, Sports and culture, described Kirabo as an exemplary leader and attributes most of her tenure’s achievements to her value for the youth, whom she involved in various development activities.

"We started with 27 youth associations in 2007 who signed performance contract with us, and currently, there are 57 cooperatives and associations of this nature and others are still registering,” said Rusimbi.

He added that the Mayor had championed several youth organizations, including the formation of sports clubs like AS Kigali Soccer Club for both men and women.

"I have been highly impressed by her leadership; she is hard working, focused, determined and result oriented. These are basically important lessons I have learnt from her,” he said.
