KIGALI - Rwanda Water and Sanitation Cooperation (RWASCO), is set to spend over Rwf500 million on the installation of water pipes in various parts of Kigali City.

In an interview yesterday, Theoneste Minani, the Head of Water Department, said that Rwf272m will be spent on the installation of a pipe which will supply water from the Gisozi treatment plant to several sectors in Kicukiro District.

Minani told The New Times that RWASCO will also install another pipe worth Rwf235m that will supply water from the Gisozi reserve to several sectors of Gasabo District

"The installation of the new water pipes will solve problems of water shortage in various areas around Kigali City where residents were being supplied with unclean and insufficient water,” Minani said.

He added that RWASCO has completed installing water pipes in Kimisagara and Nyamirambo sectors, especially around Mount Kigali and Nyakabanda.

After completing the project, RWASCO will start installing pipes in March in other areas like Rusororo and Ruyenzi sectors which currently do not have piped water.

However, Minani revealed that the installation process is often delayed because permission is needed for digging up public roads for installation of water pipes.
