Tetteh irate after Senegal defeat

AMAVUBI head coach Sellas Tetteh did not have any kind words for his team after Monday’s 2-0 defeat in the Africa Nations Championship in Sudan.

The first timers looked like they had done enough to warrant a point only to concede two late goals against the Teranga Lions in Port Sudan.

The score line was not a true reflection of the game. Right from the first whistle, Rwanda dominated proceeding but could not find the back of the net.

The first real chance of the game came in the way of Amavubi captain Haruna Niyonzima, who went close with a screamer, but Ndiaye Khadim pulled off a class save when he parried the shot away for a corner mid way the first half.

After the break, Peter Kagabo hit the cross bar while Jacques Tuyisenge shot wide with only Khadim to beat on the 82nd minute.

Seven minutes later, Senegal showed the wasps how the most important thing is football- ‘goal scoring’ is done.
Kasse Moustapha set the stadium alive with the opener when he trapped the ball from Mohamed Diop’s rebound before shooting past Rwanda’s second choice goalkeeper Jean Claude Ndoli.

In added-on time, Diop put the game beyond Rwanda’s reach with a well-taken free-kick at the edge of the penalty area to secure victory for the Teranga Lions, semi finalists at the maiden edition held in 2009 in Ivory Coast.

Amavubi now need a result on Friday to keep their chances of reaching the last eight alive. The team takes on Tunisia while Angola clashed with Senegal in the other Group D tie.
Senegal leads the group with three points, Angola and Tunisia are joint-second with a point each while Rwanda languishes at the bottom with zero points.
