AN additional six clubs have been drafted into this year’s second division league which kicks off next Sunday.
The list includes Esperance (Kimisagara), United Stars (Ruhango), Rwamagana city, Kirehe, Nyamata and Kicukiro’s Sec Academy.
According to Ferwafa’s head of competitions Felix Nzeyimana, the increase in number means that the play-offs will now feature eight teams as opposed to the usual four.
Last year, the league featured 16 teams. At the end of the season, eventual champions Muhanga and La Jeunesse were promoted into the top flight (Primus National Football League) but no PNFL teams went down following the exits of Atraco and Electrogaz.
Muhanga were crowned champions after defeating La Jeunesse on penalties (4-3).
With just under two weeks to kick-off, it is still unclear if Ferwafa has secured a sponsor for the second division.
