Dear Editor,

Recently, I was shocked to learn that a woman allegedly rejected and abandoned her aunt because she was found HIV positive.

I always thought that people in Rwanda were equipped with enough knowledge about the disease and are in position to help those who are infected instead of rejecting them.

This experience shows that many people out there need to be sensitised on transmission, treatment and effects of the disease.

I appeal to the counselors to give basic information to the public about the disease to fight stigma. Fellow Rwandans, we must fight the disease. Today it is me and tomorrow it is you!
