RWANDA’s rugby team, the Silverbacks, have started preparations for this year’s Kowloon International 10s tournament scheduled to run from March 22 to April 1 in Hong Kong.

This was confirmed by Dave Hughes, the brains behind the team’s debut last year.

"We have started fundraising for the trip. We have already secured air tickets and are now looking into accommodation and other expenses,” said Hughes.

The team, which is under the tutelage of Gerard Nsenga, is training at Ape Rugunga grounds.
Last year, the Silverbacks put in a spirited display after winning four of their six group matches to reach the plate final.

Djuma Adams Mugabo was the start performer of the side after scoring eight tries to finish as the second highest scorer. Silverbacks prospect Moise Habumugisha also scooped the tournament’s young player award.

In the plate final, Rwanda lost 0-7 against the ARC All-Stars, which had a selection of players from Hong Kong, New Zealand and South Africa.

This year’s edition will attract some of the world’s best teams like England, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia among others.
