RULINDO - The Northern Province Governor, Aime Bosenibamwe, yesterday, urged local leaders in the province to speed up the eradication of grass-thatched houses, commonly known as Nyakatsi in their respective areas of jurisdiction, before the March deadline.

Bosenibamwe made the call during a meeting at Nyirangarama Hotel, which brought together various local leaders from the area.

"The rate at which the anti-Nyakatsi drive is being implemented is very slow, you should pull up your socks to ensure that such structures are eradicated before the set deadline,” said Bosenibamwe.

He called upon the leaders to improve service delivery as a way of fast tracking the region’s development.

"Laziness and irresponsible behaviour on the part of leaders is unacceptable, if we are to realize development of this area,” cautioned the Governor.

In an evaluation that was presented regarding the eradication of Nyakatsi, it was observed that Burera District was trailing behind followed by Gicumbi District.
Rulindo District leads the pack followed by Musanze.
