KIGALI - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is using the Rwandan Embassy in Ethiopia to liaise with the consular in Egypt on ways of evacuating Rwandans caught in the political crisis in the North African nation.

This was disclosed, yesterday, by Eugene Munyakayanza, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The consular in Cairo will let us know if there are any Rwandans caught up in the protests, then we will arrange how they can be assisted,” Munyakayanza said.

Though the exact number of Rwandans in Egypt could not be established, however, it’s believed that there are Rwandan students pursuing various courses in Egyptian Universities and Rwandan nationals who operate business there.

Munyakayanza emphasized that any Rwandan in Egypt found to be in any kind of trouble will be duly evacuated.

Various countries are sending planes to evacuate their nationals from the political unrest in Egypt that has seen millions taking to the streets, calling for a change of regime.
