Editor,
I wish to commend officials from Rwanda Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration for putting in place better mechanisms that have helped many people acquire passports within a short time.
Even people who live upcountry find today’s process of acquiring passports far easier and more convenient. For instance, it would take 45 days to acquire a passport before the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.
Recently, it took me only seven days to acquire a passport. I think this has been possible because the process of acquiring passports has been decentralized and residents from the districts who wish to acquire passports no longer have the burden to travel to the Immigration Head Office in Kigali.
Today, we simply fill in the passport forms in the districts and the vetting exercise start immediately by district Immigration representatives, something highly appreciated by many residents.
Keep up the good work.
