KIGALI - The Police are investigating to establish why a second-year student at the Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) took his own life after he hanged himself using an electricity cable, on Monday night.

It is alleged that Eugene Uwambajimana, 23, committed suicide at his residence in the Cyahafi-Gitega area, of Nyarugenge District after he was dropped from the list of FARG sponsored students.

Police Spokesperson Supt. Theos Badege said, yesterday, that they intend to carry out thorough investigations to verify the allegation that he committed suicide after being removed from the bursary list.

"That is what is being alleged, but even last year he had tried to kill himself using a poisonous liquid substance called simikombe,” Badege said.

"We must find out the truth. We want to prove whether it is true.”
