TEAM Rwanda endured a torrid run at this year’s Tropicale Amissa Bongo race in Gabon.

Adrien Niyonshuti, who was riding for South African team MTN Energade, emerged as the best Rwandan after using 19 hours, seven minutes and 43 second to finish 26th.

Four-time Tour of Rwanda champion Abraham Ruhumuriza was three places further back after clocking 19 hours, nine minutes, and 54 seconds.

Nathan Byukusenge finished 34th after clocking 19:10:15 while Obed Ruvogera and exciting prospect Emmanuel Rudahunga finished 48th and 55th respectively.

Gasore Hategeka and Innocent Uwamungu crashed out of the race.
France’s Anthony Charteau held on to win the race in a time of 19 hours and five seconds, four second more than Belgium’s Andy Cappelle who finished second.

Morocco’s Adil Jelloul, winner of the 2009 Tour of Rwanda rounded off the top three slots after clocking 19 hours and 12 seconds.
For Team Rwanda, the race was a good preparation ground for the All Africa Games slated for  September in Mozambique.

The six-stage race covered 764km traversing through Oyem, Bitam (cameroon), Bibasse, Ndjole, Lambarene and Owendo in Gabon’s capital Libreville.
