NORTHERN PROVINCE

GAKENKEThe governor Boniface Rucagu and the commander of the RDF second division Brig. Gen. Alex Kagame on Monday pressed residents of Nemba Sector to drop their latest display of genocide ideology.

Unknown residents in their latest show of sectarian tendency recently dropped letters in the office of the director of Nemba Hospital J Batista Habimana asking him to leave the job allegedly because "is not one of their own"

Habimana revealed this during the meeting convened by provincial leaders meant to address cases of genocide ideology.

In another incident unidentified residents closed the offices of the Cell and rolled down the national flag at Nemba Secondary School. They also reportedly wrote documents warning Tutsi students.

But unlike in previous cases involving students, this time authorities suspect outsiders to have committed the acts.

During the meeting attended by Sector leaders, Rucagu and Kagame issued a stern warning to residents over genocide ideology.

Residents accused some local authorities of being behind the genocide ideology which has tainted their area. The coordinators of Bulanga and Mucaca Cells were suspended last week allegedly over the ideologies.

The local authorities were called upon to set up information network to track those suspected of perpetrating the vice and sensitise residents on the dangers of ethnic ideology.

Residents were also asked to step up night patrols in order to combat crimes. They were also warned that the law would eventually catch up with the perpetrators.

MPs of the Lower Chamber last Friday passed a bill on genocide ideology which prescribes ten to twenty five years imprisonment and a fine ranging between Frw200,000 and Frw 1million on being convicted of genocide ideology.
