I read Arthur Asiimwe's story that appeared in your newspaper on January, 27, citing clear points as to why people in the region should not overlook Rwanda and Burundi when it comes to EAC top posts.
A section of regional media had recently suggested that people from Burundi and Rwanda will be outcompeted for the EAC top jobs.
Asiimwe pointed out that Rwandan nationals have successfully headed various international institutions. They include Donald Kaberuka (ADB), General Patrick Nyamvumba (UNAMID)and many others still serving in international bodies as top officials.
Reading from your newspaper again that Rwanda’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Eugène-Richard Gasana, was, recently, elected Chairperson of the Peace-building Commission (PBC), for the year 2011, was indeed another sign of confidence the UN has in the people of Rwanda.
I wish to communicate through your newspaper and tell people who may, still doubt Rwandans' capacity to occupy top EAC positions, that our people are talented and will continue to compete and head top posts in International organizations. Already, Rwandans who have been heading these posts have performed to people’s expectations.
If this happens in other institutions, why should our fellow neighbors doubt our capacity to occupy these posts. My conclusion is that Rwandans have capacity and skills required to occupy several posts in the EAC.
