DESPITE inadequate preparations, Amavubi head coach Sellas Tetteh has backed his team to put in a good performance in this year’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) slated to run from February 4-25 in Khartoum, Sudan.

Almost half of the team joined camp yesterday, just two days before the team’s departure but the Ghanaian insists that the players are in good physical condition and only need to work on the technical aspect of the game.

"Most of the players who have just joined camp are from APR and we all know that the club is playing in the Orange Champions League so we don’t have any serious worries about their physical condition,” he said before adding, "What we are going to work on in the next few days are the different combinations.”

Rwanda’s task has been simplified following reports that Tunisia has withdrawn from the competition due to political unrest in Tunis.

This literally means that Amavubi only need one win to progress to the quarter-finals.

CHAN is a very important tournament for Tetteh. The Ghanaian has endured a bad start after a patchy display in last year’s Cecafa Challenge Cup and back to back defeats in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ivory Coast and Benin and wants to use the tournament has a mending ground.

With Dady Birori and Kipson Atuheire serious doubts for the tournament, Tetteh is expected to rely on Yusuf Ndayishimiye, Peter Kagabo, Jack Tuyisenge and Eric Serugaba in attack.

Birori, who plays for SC Kiyovu is yet to report to camp while APR have still failed to secure Atuheire’s International Transfer Certificate (ITC) from his former club SC Villa.
Rwanda are drawn in Group D alongside Tunisia, Angola and Senegal.

Group A includes hosts Sudan, Gabon, Uganda and Algeria, Ghana, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Niger are in Group B while Group C pits holders DRC against Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Mali.

Rwanda qualified after edging second round opponents Tanzania 1-0 on aggregate and will open their campaign next Monday against Senegal.

Last year, DRC beat Ghana to lift the inaugural tournament.
