MUHANGA -The Minister of Local government, James Musoni, has commended the leadership of Muhanga District for promoting good governance and involving residents in community development.
The minister made the remarks, last week, while presiding over the presentation of achievements registered by the District Advisory Council (DAC) in the last five years.
The best performers and outgoing leaders were rewarded for their exemplary efforts in good governance.
"There is need to empower all cells and sectors with the capacity to deliver better services and decentralizing government development, in the next five years,” Musoni said.
He added that the use of Information Communication and Technology at these levels will be necessary to speed up service delivery and districts should improve on the coordination and implementation of community activities.
The Governor of the Southern Province, Fidele Ndayisaba, noted that the leadership of Muhanga had managed to complete its mandate without internal conflicts and misunderstandings despite the various ups and downs in the district.
"The province is very impressed with the way the leadership managed to stay focused and put their efforts together despite the many resignations, and death of some officials,” Ndayisaba said.
He also commended the council for being able to coordinate with the private sector to uplift the status and activities of the business community in the area.
The Mayor of Muhanga, Yvonne Mutakwasuku, attributed their achievements to teamwork.
"The district’s aim was to set a new development pace in the province and out-compete other districts in implementing performance contracts, she said.
