Tax collection in Rubavu District has more than doubled over the past four years. This was one of the achievements highlighted by the District Council, last week, as their five-year mandate comes to an end.

"We attribute our achievements to hard working residents who worked tirelessly to improve their livelihood,” said Sheikh Hassan Bahame, the Mayor.

While presenting the achievements, Bahame emphasised economic development, citing an increase in tax collection from Rwf326m in 2006 to Rwf826 million by the end of 2010.

Still on the economic front, SACCO deposits have grown from Rwf12 million when it started to Rwf49.7 million by the end of last year.

MP Francoise Mukayisenga, who hails from the district, commended the outgoing council for the work that has seen the district transform.

"I want to congratulate the outgoing council upon their achievements in the last five years which led to the promotion of government programs as well as encouraging you to always work as a team,” said Mukayisenga.

The legislator attributed the construction of roads, markets and rural electrification to the good governance that the country enjoys.
