UGMA Engineering Corporation, a Ugandan based engineering company plans to open a branch in Rwanda.

The company is jointly co-owned by the Uganda government and Mehta Group of companies.

If the engineering plant in Rwanda is opened, then UGMA would have brought services nearer to its clients in Rwanda. But also use the country to supply the Great Lakes Region growing demand.

UGMA’s Emmanuel Chemonges said they may be here early next year.

‘‘Most of our clients are from Rwanda, this is why we are eager to ease their cost of transport by setting up a plant here,’’ he said at Rwanda Expo grounds in Gikindo.

Chemonges said that the company is exhibiting to show case the variety of products Ugma produces and tap more clients who have been ignorant about UGMA equipments.  Ugma has a niche market for the agricultural, building construction, sewage system, sugar mill and tea processing products.

Currently the company supplies Kabuye Sugar works with spare parts like grab and roll shell,  used in sugar processing.

He said ‘‘Kabuye sugar works is our leading client in Rwanda but I hope we are going to get more clients when we set up our plant next year.’’

UGMA was set up in 1960, in Lugazi Uganda and it is the largest Engineering enterprise in East Africa. Ends
