The outgoing local authorities in Nyaruguru district have said they are pleased with the steps made to improve the welfare of the people in their communities.

The district Mayor, Felix Sibomana, pointed out that the district is now food secure, unlike in the past when Nyarugura was always short of food.

In the past five years, Sibomana said, agriculture production has improved remarkably, and the "one cow”/Girinka programme, has greatly contributed to the improved nutrition and eradicating poverty.

Other achievements highlighted include, infrastructure development, where roads and health facilities have been constructed, as well as, more residents having access to electricity.

"We are proud of what we achieved in the last mandate and we hope to achieve more if the population gives us another mandate,” Sibomana said.

"There are three compulsory things that all leaders should avoid in order to maintain their positions: conflict, corruption and crime.”

Sibomana called upon area residents to vote able leaders in the upcoming local leaders elections that are scheduled for early February until March.
