Rubavu District, will next month, start the construction of a modern market worth Rwf800 million. The market, to be constructed where the current taxi park and old market are situated, will, jointly, be funded by the district and the Common Development Fund (CDF).

Rubavu District, will next month, start the construction of a modern market worth Rwf800 million.

The market, to be constructed where the current taxi park and old market are situated, will, jointly, be funded by the district and the Common Development Fund (CDF).

"This is going to a big market and it will serve the people of Rubavu and beyond. We hope it will help improve their living standards,” said Sheikh Hassan Bahame, the Mayor of Rubavu district.

CDF, a government owned fund set up to support the implementation of the decentralization policy, has already disbursed Rwf200 million for the first phase of the project.

"The new market will also ensure security of both goods and people since it will be of better standards,” Bahame said, adding that once complete, street vendors will be required to leave the streets.
