The transfer of Callixte Mbarushimana, the Executive Secretary of Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague is a big lesson to other militias still holed up in the jungles of Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The group has committed war crimes including rape, torture, mutilation and mass murder. Some criminals have managed to elude justice. But the arrest and transfer of Mbarushimana to The Hague is a big lesson to his accomplices that people who commit crimes can no longer run away from justice forever. They should know that justice can take long but one day, they will be produced in court.

It’s also good news to hear that the German government had stepped up the campaign to arrest all elements who belong to FDLR. Other countries especially in Africa, should take a leaf from the German government and arrest all genocide suspects still hiding in their respective countries.
