CECAFA Secretary General Nicholas Musonye has been cleared to contest in the forthcoming Kenya Football Federation (KFF) elections.
According to Kenya’s Standard Newspaper, Cecafa President Leodegar Tenga who is also a member of Fifa’s associations committee says that the regional body cannot bar him from contesting for the KFF seat.
"Musonye is a Kenyan and is free to contest in the polls just like anybody else provided he meets the requirements of the electoral code which will be published in the next few weeks after consultation with key stake-holders,” he said.
Tenga also dismissed reports that Musonye would have an upper hand in the race owing to his Cecafa position.
"He has done a lot for Cecafa and we still need him but if he wants to help Kenyan football, we will not stand in his way,” Tenga added.
News that Musonye may contest for the KFF seat has not gone down well with some KFF officials who insist that he should quit his Cecafa seat.
The elections are scheduled for April pending the approval of the Independent Electoral Board (IEB).
