Rwanda has won the right to stage the 2016 edition of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) finals, while Morocco and South Africa were picked to host the 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations respectively.

Morocco was also nominated to host the 2013 edition of the CAF U-17 Championship.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (Caf) held under the chairmanship of President Issa Hayatou yesterday in Lubumbashi, DR Congo.

A few weeks ago, Hayatou endorsed Rwanda to host the 2016 CHAN edition after the country staged two successful youth continental tournaments in a space of three years including the 2009 U-20 Africa youth championship as well as the U-17 championship this year.

CHAN is a competition reserved for players featuring in their respective domestic leagues. The first edition was held in 2009 in Ivory Coast.  Following Caf’s move to switch the Africa Nations Cup to odd years, CHAN will now be held in even years.

This means that after this year’s edition which is slated to run from February 4-25 in Khartoum, Sudan; subsequent editions were decided to be held in even years starting with the 2012 edition.
