Editor,

I traveled from Kampala, on Wednesday this week by road with Gaga, a Bus service operated by Gaga Services but was shocked by the insensitivity of the company’s staff. Before boarding the bus heading to Kampala a week before, all passengers had to go through security checkpoint to ensure that the lives of passengers are protected.

But on Wednesday this week, the staff never bothered to check passengers’ luggage.  In this world of terrorism, suppose one passenger carried a bomb and blow up all people on board? What the staff members only considered important was to ensure that all passengers had bus tickets. Not so long ago, three people were killed and 39 injured by a bomb explosion at a bus station in Kenya’s capital.

The blast which happened as passengers passed through a security checkpoint before boarding a coach, which was bound for Kampala, is still fresh in the minds of passengers and the owners of these buses should know that by not checking passengers’ luggage, they are putting the lives of passengers in danger.
