KIGALI - Two people died yesterday evening and 26 injured- six critically, when a grenade exploded at a busy bus terminal in Giporoso, Remera a suburb in Kigali City.

The Police spokesperson, Theos Badege, confirmed the incident, adding that some arrests had already been made. Those injured were rushed to various hospitals in Kigali.

"28 people were injured in the blast, two of them unfortunately died on arrival at the hospital,” Badege said.

"Four people were arrested immediately. We will update you as investigations proceed.”

According to an eye witnesses, a loud explosion was heard at around 7 p.m and then commotion followed

When The New Times visited the scene, Police had cordoned off the area, but thick blood stains could be seen on the tarmac and inside the Stella Bus Express offices.

Two motorcycles were lying on the ground, one damaged seriously.
A taxi carrying 10 passengers had its glass windows broken and tyres burst, but none of its passengers was injured.

The Mayor of Kigali, Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, the Commissioner General of Police, Emmanuel Gasana, and senior army officers, rushed to the scene to ascertain the damage, as anxious onlookers made numerous calls to try and identify the injured.
