KIGALI - A Genocide fugitive is, expected to land at Kigali International Airport, today, after a court in Chicago ordered his deportation following his conviction on immigration fraud.

According to a media advisory from the National Public Prosecutions Authority, Jean Marie Vianney Mudahinyuka, who had been sentenced in absentia to 19 years in prison for his role in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, left O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Thursday morning.

"The Genocide Fugitive Tracking Unit of the National Public Prosecuting Authority (NPPA) will take into custody Jean Marie Vianney Mudahinyuka alias Zuzu at 9:30 am Friday 28,” reads part of the communiqué.

Mudahinyuka has been wanted by the NPPA and been on an Interpol Wanted List since 20 November 2009 for crimes against humanity and Genocide.

He will be handed over to Rwandan authorities by officials of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), after which he will proceed to jail to begin his 19-year sentence, handed down by the Gacaca Court of Nyakabanda, Kigali in 2008.

When contacted for a comment, the spokesperson of the NPPA confirmed the development but said the prosecution will comment after the fugitive is handed to them.
