Rwamagana - Social Bureau for Development, an organisation based in Muhanga, in partnership with Margrit Foundation Network, has donated surgical equipment to Rwamagana Hospital.

The donation was handed over on Wednesday by Father Josaphat Hitimana, a co-founder of the foundation, who said their overall aim was to help the country and its people in socio-economic development.
He added that the foundation also helps the vulnerable access interest free micro-credit.

"Margrit Fuchs loved Rwanda…today we are pushing her ideals to help widows, orphans, access basic needs. The donation of surgical equipments thus, serves similar purposes,” he said.

Dr. Claude Ndagijimana, the Director of Rwamagana Hospital, said the equipment valued at about Rwf 25 million will enable them to carry out a number of surgical operations previously referred to other hospitals.

He noted that equipping the surgical ward and laboratory was of paramount importance to the hospital.

"The equipment we got is of good quality and will benefit our patients…there are some surgical needs that don’t have to be transferred to Kigali. We shall do proper maintenance so that they last a long time,” he said.

Rwamagana Mayor, Nehemie Uwimana, said the modern equipment will guarantee provision of better health services to the people.

He observed that Rwanda’s Vision 2020 health program calls for quality healthcare for all, which is why such a donation is appreciated.

"We are on the right track, availability of more modern equipment, coupled with enough ambulances, will help us realize our goals,” he said.

Margrit Foundation is a Swiss based Non Governmental Organization (NGO) named after its founder, Margrit Fuchs.
Fuchs, a Swiss, worked in Rwanda for 30 years until her death in 1977.
