Tardy takes break after holding new contract talks

RWANDA’s U-17 team, the Junior Wasps will regroup in March to start their preparations for the 2011 Fifa World Cup final scheduled for June 18-July 20 in Mexico.

The scheduled was announced by head coach Richard Tardy, who leaves for his vacation back in his native France this evening.

"I have given them a break but we shall we shall regroup again in March. But, as I go for my break, I’m not going just to dine and wine with family the whole time, I’m going to be working as we search for other players, who we think can strengthen the team for the World Cup final,” Tardy told Times Sport yesterday.

He added, "I have been told of one player, who is playing at Toulouse Fountain academy and one in Brussels, so [while] I intend to take a look at them and see if they are good enough for our World Cup campaign.”

However, when asked about the outcome of his new contract talks, the Frenchman said, "I holding talks with Ferwafa and Minispoc [throughout] this week and I hope to get a communication before I leave tomorrow (today) for Paris.”

"But I would like to work again in Rwanda with this team. I enjoyed working in Rwanda and I will still remember this country because of the history that we have made by qualifying for the World Cup finals,” stated Tardy, who is highly likely to be given a new one-year contract was a reward for guiding the Junior Wasps for the World Cup.

Tardy’s team reached the Caf U-17 Championship final but lost to Burkina Faso 2-1 last Saturday.

Rwanda headed into the African final as slight favourites as they had beaten the West Africans 2-1 at the group stage but it was the Burkinabe who got their ‘sweet’ revenge when it mattered most.

Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Congo Brazzaville and Ivory Coast will now represent Africa in Mexico.
