MUSANZE  - Musanze -The second phase of ‘Understanding conflicts and Conflict Analysis’ course which was organized by the Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA) in Nyakinama, began on Monday with participants from 8 African countries in attendance.

The training, which was organized by the RPA in partnership with the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), is being facilitated by experts from Kings College London in partnership with ten senior officers from the Rwanda Defense Forces- who have completed Training of Trainers (ToT) course on the theme.

The international pilot course on conflict analysis is being attended by 22 participants from East African Community member states, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Egypt and Zimbabwe.

The Acting Director of Rwanda Peace Academy, Brig. Gen Mushyo Kamanzi, said that the participants who included senior military officers, police and civilians will offer an overview of the elements of conflict analysis and how these can be integrated in the context of pre-intervention assessment and planning for a peace missions.

"The officers attending this course have vast experience in conflict management including repatriation and resettlement of refugees, inter community mediation for sustainable peace and reconciliation, conflict analysis is therefore another form of skill,’’ Gen. Kamanzi said.

Kamanzi defended the two-week timeframe allocated for the course, saying that with their vast experience, it will help them outline broad strategies to break the vicious cycle of conflict and make development planning. 

Rwanda Peace Academy aims to respond to the need for long term peace building in Africa by offering training and research programmes relevant to conflict resolution.
