Junior Wasps coach to hold new contract talks this week
JUNIOR Wasps head coach Richard Tardy is expected to hold new contract talks with the Sports Ministry and local football federation (Ferwafa) this week.
Tardy’s contract expires next month and Ferwafa have made it clear that renewing his contract is top on their agenda.
The tactician, who took charge of the team last year, has received huge praise from the Rwandan public after steering the team to the 2011 Fifa U-17 World Cup slated for June in Mexico.
The youngsters reached the Caf U-17 Championship final but lost out to a revitalized Burkina Faso side 2-1 on Saturday.
But for Ferwafa boss Brig. Gen. Jean Bosco Kazura, Tardy’s good work is clear for everyone to see.
"It’s always good to maintain a winning team. He has been fantastic and we would like him to stay on as head coach,” Kazura said.
"We are going to hold talks with him about a new contract and I’m positive that we shall reach an agreement,” the official added.
Sports Minister Joseph Habineza is also eager to get the deal done as soon as possible.
"We need to get it done quickly and turn our attention to the World Cup,” the minister said.
Rwanda headed into Saturday’s final as slight favourites as they had beaten the West Africans 2-1 at the group stage but it was the Burkinabe who got the first goal when Zaniou Sana intercepted a weak back pass from Rwanda’s skipper Faustin Usengimana to score 13 minutes after half time.
Charles Tibingana Mwesigye equalised with a thunderous strike on the 65th but Aziz Abdoul Kabore restored the West Africans’ lead seven minutes later after a cracking strike.
Rwanda marched into the game seeking to become only the second team after Gambia to host and win the competition.
Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Congo Brazzaville and Ivory Coast will now represent Africa in Mexico.
