According to Sports Minister Joseph Habineza, Kagame thanked the team for a job well done and advised them to quickly switch their focus to the World Cup which kicks off towards the end of June.

"He thanked the team for a job well done and cautioned the players to draw lessons from their final’s defeat against Burkina Faso ahead of the World Cup,” the minister said.

Rwanda settled for silver following a 2-1 defeat against a rejuvenated Burkina Faso side in Saturday’s final at Amahoro stadium.

The Burkinabe opened the scoring in the 58th minute through Zaniou Sana who intercepted a weak back-pass from Rwanda’s skipper Faustin Usengimana.

Charles Tibingana Mwesigye equalised for the hosts on the 65th minute with a thunderous strike but the West Africans restored the lead seven minutes later after another cracker from Aziz Abdoul Kabore.
