The Minister of Local Government, on Saturday, called on Kigali City leaders to improve public service delivery as a way of spurring development.

The country’s Vision 2020 outlines various development goals. To achieve them, we have to accelerate the reconstruction of social capital, development of basic infrastructure, strengthening entrepreneurship and the private sector, as well as the modernization of agriculture.

As demonstrated by the Government, the role of good service delivery is paramount in ensuring public and public sector effectiveness, which is a critical ingredient of good governance and development.

However, to achieve the desired service delivery levels, the local leaders will need to share knowledge through the identification, documentation and exchange of good practices and lessons learned about service delivery approaches.

Local leaders must also understand the importance of political factors that include commitment, the qualities of local leadership and mobilization of the masses.

Now that the government has brought governance closer to the people, mechanisms to measure and monitor the success of service delivery should also be strengthened.
Good service delivery will ensure that the Rwandan people are not only able to live, but have good lives as well.
