POLICE FC have named Alphonse Katarebe as their new chairman. Katarebe, a veteran sportsman and co-founder of the now disband Rwanda FC takes over from Emmanuel Butera who has been at the helm since 2005.

Butera, Police’s assistant coach Abdul Mbarushimana and four other members of the coaching staff were also relieved of their duties during Saturday’s crisis meeting chaired by the Commissioner General of Police Emmanuel Gasana.
Reliable sources indicate that the move was reached following the club’s unending trophy drought.

Katarebe, who promised to end the club’s long wait for silverware, will now work alongside new coach Goran Kopunovich.

"I am excited and honoured to be taking up this position. This season, I’m not promising much as far as the league title is concerned because we are so many points off the pace but we shall still try to get the club into the best position possible,” he said.

"But from next season, our goal is to challenge for the league trophy.”

Katarebe has also worked with the Burundian national team.
