Crossing over from a church choir to becoming one of the big music stars is no easy task. Yet, Kitoko appears to have succeeded in this difficult mission.

The Salux award winner is determined to promote his music across the boarders, by recording his music with one of East Africa’s top music producers, Washington and teaming up with famous regional artistes.

Kitoko has all it takes to become a real star, thanks to his rich and unique voice, personality, maturity and a sense of purpose. He has always been on top of the local music, and it was his ‘Ikiragi’ track that earned him an amazing popularity.

His latest songs ‘Nyina w’undi’ and ‘Turacyakundana’ have already topped local charts, and the star clearly shows no signs of slowing down on outing hits.

Here is what the 25-year-old singer had to share:
On quitting music: "I don’t plan to quit music any time soon. Had a few problems a few months ago, but all is ok now and I am back with a bang.”

On balancing career and studies: "I think it can be hard for any artiste, especially at university level, to balance studies and music. So when it comes to studies, I work very hard, the same is true when it comes to music.”
Kitoko’s goal in life is to reach the same level of fame as his idol, the ‘King of R&B’, R-Kelly.

The pop star cites the ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ hitmaker as his greatest influence, and admits he strives to emulate R-Kelly’s success as an entertainer.

And Kitoko hopes his music will eventually reach a wider audience so he can be appreciated by fans of all ages.
He tells Sunday Mag "Music is music, and I’m definitely trying to make my own genre of music, with great melodies for my fans.

Kitoko hopes more East Africans will soon start enjoying his music.
