KAMPALA - Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Frank Mugambage, has reiterated the government’s firm stand on accountability, which he said has led to the existence of strong institutions that the country is proud of today.

The envoy made the remarks yesterday in Kampala while addressing members of various media houses under the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA).

"When you see people being held accountable for the wrongs done, it means that there are effective and functional institutions in the country,” Mugambage said.

Giving an example on efforts the government has taken to build the capacity of the media industry in the country, Mugambage took a swipe at a section of people whom he said intentionally choose not to appreciate the success the country has registered, "in record time.”

"People can say whatever they want to say, and my advice to them is to always speak whatever they say backed with facts,” he said.

The High Commissioner described the relations between Rwanda and Uganda as good and cordial, adding that the established the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) between the two countries is there to underpin that.

On good governance, Mugambage informed the reporters that the concluded National Dialogue is one of many channels through which Rwandans directly participate in the governance of their country.
