Kagame rallies support for Junior Wasps

KIGALI - President Paul Kagame, has urged the Rwandan people to turn out in large numbers and support the country’s U-17 football team, which plays Burkina Faso in the final of the 9th Africa youth Championship, taking place, this afternoon, at Amahoro stadium.

KIGALI - President Paul Kagame, has urged the Rwandan people to turn out in large numbers and support the country’s U-17 football team, which plays Burkina Faso in the final of the 9th Africa youth Championship, taking place, this afternoon, at Amahoro stadium.

The youngsters spurred on by thousands of home fans, including President Kagame, beat Ivory Coast, 1-0 in the semi-final to progress to the final.

Kagame expressed gratitude to the Junior Wasps, saying that they have made Rwanda proud by qualifying for the finals of the African junior tournament, and clinching a place in the Fifa U-17 World Cup finals scheduled to be held later this year in Mexico.

The President noted that by reaching the final, the team showed that they were well prepared and committed to the tournament.

He also called upon the national team to display quality football such that Rwanda can lift the continental trophy.
