The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) is scheduled to sit in Nairobi, on  January 24, in its third meeting of the fourth session of the assembly.
In a statement released by the bloc’s secretariat, the session is scheduled to run from January 24 to February 4, 2011.
The Assembly, to be presided by the Speaker, Abdirahin H. Abdi, will discuss crucial legislative business to EAC’s integration dispensation, as well as, interact and share experiences with the Kenyan Parliamentarians, the leadership and the general public, as envisaged under Article 49 of the Treaty establishing the East African Community.

The session will also be addressed by Kenyan President, Mwai Kibaki, during the special sitting on Tuesday January 25.
The third meeting is also expected to debate bills of the EAC Elections, Service Commission and hold committee meetings.

During the session, the EALA will also discuss preparations for the forthcoming 10th EALA Anniversary Observance scheduled to be celebrated in respective Partner States with a major event slated for Arusha, Tanzania, on November 29, 2011. 

EALA is the Legislative Organ of the East African Community. Its membership consists of 52 members, of whom 45 are elected members (9 from each Partner State) and seven ex-officio members (the Ministers responsible for EAC Affairs from the Partner States, the Secretary General of the Community and the Counsel to the Community).
