GICUMBI- Representatives of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) hailing from all the 21 Sectors of Gicumbi District, were yesterday urged to turnout in large numbers for the forthcoming local government elections.

The call was made by Gicumbi District National Electoral Commission (NEC) Civic Education Coordinator, Pierre Celestin Byigero, at the district hall.

"You should turn up in large numbers to elect responsible leaders, during the forthcoming local leaders’ elections which also include your representatives,” said Byigero.

He appealed to the group to elect leaders of integrity and those with no criminal records.

According to Byigero, the elections will start on February 6 with the election of village (mudugudu) executive committees.

This will be followed by that of members of the cell advisory council on February 7to elect council chairperson, vice chairperson and secretary.

"The elections for Sector advisory council members and those of youth and women committees will take place on February 12 while the elections for PWDs representatives will be conducted on February 19.”

PWDs elected at sector level will further elect their representatives at district level on February 23.

The district coordinator of PWDs, John Rukerikibaye, advised them to form cooperative societies to make it easier to access funding for their activities.
