Quartet qualifies for Africa Junior Tennis tourney

FOUR local tennis youngsters will feature in this year’s Africa Junior Tennis Championship in Egypt.

Ernest Habiyambere, Jules Ndibwami, Gisele Umumararungu and Gatete Hamisi put in a brave display in last week’s ITF/CAT East Africa Zonal Championship held in Burundi.

The quartet amassed 255 points to qualify for the continental competition which will be played in two age groups; U-14 and U-16.

 

In the U-14 category, Habiyambere finished 4th with 35 points while Ndibwami picked up 30 points to finish 5th.
In the U-16 category, Gatete earned 60 points to finish fourth while Umumararungu finished third with 75 points.

Kenya emerged top after collecting 570 points while Ethiopia finished second with 540.

Hosts Burundi came in third place with 490 points.
