FOUR-time Tour of Rwanda champion Abraham Ruhumuriza is eager to win over the local cycling federation, Ferwacy and the fans when he rides for Team Rwanda in the 5th Tour of Gabon / La Tropicale Amissa Bongo slated to run from January 25 to 30.

Despite his experience and pedigree, the 30-year-old was barred from competing in last year’s African continental championship and tour of Rwanda on disciplinary grounds.
But after handing in a written apology towards the end of last year, Ferwacy were forced to reinstate him in the national side.

After six weeks of intensive training, Ruhumuriza believes Rwanda can finish inside the top six teams.
"We are a more improved side than we were six weeks ago and should do well in Gabon,” he said.

Other teams scheduled to ride in the six-day event include Cameroon, Kenya, Eritrea, Ivory Coast, Congo Brazzaville, South Africa’s MTN Energade and several professional teams from Europe.
