KIGALI - Rwanda Governance Advisory Council (RGAC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Information, will tomorrow hold a policy dialogue on the Media Law to clearly identify areas of concern and formulate reform proposals.

The meeting will also be partly supported by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC-Rwanda) Media & Justice Strengthening Projects.

Media dialogue is also in line with the government’s commitment to improve civil liberties, political rights, voice and accountability, which are also MCC ‘Ruling Justly’ indicators.

According to Prof. Anastase Shyaka, the Executive Secretary of RGAC, they are organizing a 4th Policy Dialogue with a broader forum of stakeholders such as journalists, media owners, government institutions, legislators and civic organizations among others.

"The forum aims at engaging them to discuss and bring in new inputs towards a more comprehensive review of the media law,” he said.

"Rwanda Governance Advisory Council and all partners look forward to an enhanced civic participation that will inform and inspire a more vibrant media industry”.

Shyaka added that a vibrant and responsible media is one of the key indicators of a well-functioning democracy.
