MUHANGA - The Flemish Association for Development and Technical Assistance (VVOB) has donated 114 computers and laptops to 53 Vocational Training Centres (VTC) in the Southern Province.

The equipment was handed over last week, through the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre (IPRC) in the province.

The items were received by Gedeon Rudahunga, IPRC director, in a function attended by provincial officials.

"The donation is aimed at improving administrative work, access to Internet for education and research, networking between centres and enabling skills development,” Rudahunga said.

He added that the equipment should be put to proper use so as to improve the quality of education and capacity of technical schools in Rwanda.

Jean Claude Mpazimpaka, the provincial head of special programmes, who also represented Governor Fidel Ndayisaba, hailed the VVOB Rwanda Programme for its efforts in improving vocational education in the region.

Mpazimpaka said: "This donation boosts the province’s goal of having skilled people. Technical education is very important to our people and it will enable them to create jobs, to join a competitive job market and self sustainability.”  

The heads of technical schools said that the equipment was needed and timely since most schools have been lacking ICT tools to improve their administrative and educational strategies.
