WITH Disi Dieudonne out of the reckoning, Sylvain Rukundo proved that he has all the ingredients to dominate track races after a stellar performance over the weekend. The athlete, who runs for Police, spurred the club to this year’s national championship title at Amahoro stadium after winning the 10,000m race in 30minutes, 18 seconds and 21 micro-seconds.

Kamonyi’s Alexis Nizeyimana finished second (30:31:36) while Leonidas Baganizi (NAS) came in third place after clocking 30.38:90.

In 5000m, APR’s Godfrey Rutayisire clocked 14:23:32 to claim top place ahead of Jean Baptista Ruvubi (NAS) and Felix Ntirenganya (Police) who clocked 14.32:81 and 14.40:29 respectively.

Egide Kayigire from Kamonyi clocked 4.05:99 to win the 1500m; Potien Ntawuyirushintege won the 800m for New Stars athletics club in 1.53:51 while Emmanuel Ntakiyimana used 45:48 to win the 400m category.

APR dominated sprint races with Hamisi Ndayisaba claiming both 100m (11.45) and 200m (22.40).

In the women category, Claudette Mukasakindi beat fellow APR runner Epiphanie Nyirabarame to the 500m title after clocking 16:50: 70. Nyirabarame, a two-time olympian clocked 17:24;19 while Jacqueline Murekatete who featured for Kamonyi finished third in a time of 17:26:18.
Adeline Musabyeyezu (Kamonyi) won the 1500m in 4:42:92 while Mukasakindi claimed her second win of the day after winning the 800m in 2.15:08.

Jean d’Arc Uwamahoro (APR) clocked 59:90 to win the 400m race while Assinate Dusingizimana (Nyamasheke) won a double after claiming both 100m and 200m races.
