Rwanda’s professional golfer Emmanuel Ruterana failed to deal with the wild easterly winds at the Fish River Sun Country Club in Eastern Cape, South Africa as he missed the cut on day two of the inaugural Africa Open event that climaxed last Sunday.

The 26-year-old together with his Ugandan counterparts; Godfrey Mande, Amos Kamya and Deo Akope found playing against the wind so hard.

It is said that the winds reached a speed of 95km per hour, conditions which highly hampered the East African golfers.

Despite a below par performance, Ruterana is looking forward to the next tournament. "It is so windy here but I have to remain positive because I still have two tournaments," said Ruterana during a phone interview from South Africa.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Shaun Norris cruised home to a regal victory and his debut win on the lucrative Sunshine Tour with a winning total of 13-under-par 275.

Norris finished a dozen shots better than Nic Henning, who carded a 69 to sneak past the field for sole second on seven-under 281, and two better than Zimbabwe’s Marc Cayeux.

"I set myself a goal at the beginning of the week to stay calm and collected and to stick to a well-laid game plan," said Norris.

"I only adapted my game plan once, due to the fierceness of the wind," Norris continued.

At the end of the day, Norris was presented with a cash prize of R 190.200 (approx. Frw 14m).
