APR vs Club Africain

PRIMUS National Football League (PNFL) champions APR hope to be in perfect shape for next Saturday’s Orange Champions League clash against Tunisia’s Club Africain in Kigali.

The two sides were drawn together in the preliminary round of Africa’s most coveted club competition.

In a brief interview with head coach Ernest Brandts, he revealed that the team has been under-going intensive training since December last year.

"The boys have been working hard in training and I think it is a very good sign because they want to get to the group stage,” the Dutchman, who joined the club in the off-season, said.

"I have watched a few videos of Club Africain playing and they are a well balanced side with good technique so we have to prepare well.”

"For such cup games, it is important that you win your home game so I have urged the boys to give everything to make sure we get maximum points next Saturday,” he added.

Brandts has enjoyed a good start at the helm after winning his opening nine games in the PNFL and will be looking for a replica display in the Orange Champions league.
After the first leg, APR will travel to Tunis for the return leg.

The winner will then play either Kenya’s Ulinzi Stars or Egyptian champions Zamalek in the first round.
Last year, APR suffered a premature exit (first round) following a 3-1 aggregate defeat against eventual champions TP Mazembe.

The Tunisian side is expected to arrive in the country early next week.
