Staff of the Ministry of Justice is on a sensitisation tour of the Western province explaining to the residents the justice sector’s agenda for the next seven years.

The tour, which started last week, has covered Nyabihu and Rubavu districts so far and it continues to Nyamasheke and Nyamagabe this week.

"The Ministry wants the justice structures brought closer to the people and they should be part parcel of the justice system if they are to benefit from it,” said Desire Bazimaziki, the in charge of information and dissemination strategy in the ministry of information which is responsible for organising the campaign.

He added that for the campaign to be successful, it should provide solutions to the challenges experienced by the residents, it should be understood by the local leaders who will implement it and it has to be recognised by Rwandans as something that is beneficial to them.

The residents were urged to embrace and expedite the implementation of the government justice programs that will solve communal conflicts and facilitate development.
Among the initiatives the Ministry of Justice has put in place to support local communities and help them understand the various laws, is to have three legal advisors posted in every district.

"In promoting justice, the ministry has partnered with other stakeholders such as the police, the human rights commission and the national unity and reconciliation commission among others,” added Bazimaziki.
