Ivory Coast will play Rwanda in the second semi-finals of the African Youth U-17 Championship after the Young Elephants thrashed champions Gambia 4-1 at Kigali Regional stadium yesterday.

In the other group B matches played at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu, saw Congo condemn Mali to their third defeat in a row with a 2-1 win.

Diarrassouba Drissa scored the Young Elephants opener on 11th minute before Jean Evrand Kouassi doubled the lead with an excellent strike a minute before the break.
Ange Lionel Lago added the third (61) before Guy Stephane Bedi came off the bench to end the rout with a well taken penalty on 74th minute.

Adama Sabally scored Gambia’s consolation on 71st minute but never lasted for long afterwards as he was sent off for an intentional handball.

The win for the Young Elephants means they finish top of Group B with seven points and will now face host Rwanda in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

In Rubavu, Congo’s goals were scored by Christ Nkounkou and Stevy Epako. Mali,which had already been eliminated from the competition pulled one back from substitute Berthe Malick.

The match was watched by top CAF executive members led by President Issa Hayatou.

Meanwhile, CAF executive committee members are scheduled to play an exhibition match against Ferwafa committee members this morning at Umuganda Stadium.
