The Press House General Assembly which took place on Friday, ended without electing new leaders which was the major goal of the meeting.

During the meeting at Sports view Hotel Remera, a number of concerns were raised by attendants whereby the majority, blamed the committee under journalist Marcel Museminali set to study problems in the organization of failure to produce a report in time.

At the meeting which at times turned into chaos following participants strong sentiments, the chief handicap advanced by several contributors was that of eligibility of membership and hence a question of who qualified to vote.

However, as explained by the Chairman of the current board, Albert Rudatsimburwa, which has been in power for over six years, Press House members are only media houses and media associations that were registered and recognized by the government.

But the issue of membership was not agreed upon and the Assembly assigned it to the Museminali Committee which should present a report on a number of problems within one month prior to the elections scheduled for February 25 this year.

The Director General in the Ministry of Information, Ignatius Kabagambe advised the participants to calm down and instead re-organize themselves for another date after solving the underlying setbacks.

The Press House was formed in 1995 and the initial members were eleven. As of now, there are no clear data on membership status which would determine voters.
