I have heard media reports that maize production in parts of the Eastern province could drop by a remarkable percentage this season due to long dry spell.
Drought is not a new phenomenon, as it is linked to climate change and human activities.

As weather patterns change, farmers have to find ways of adapting to these changes. To overcome food insecurity, planting crops which resist harsh weather conditions and availing water for irrigation should be the strategy. The farming community will ensure food security only if they stop relying entirely on rain for crop production.
