MUSANZE - A private secondary school in Musanze District -ACETI Imanzi, has been shut down following a report from the Ministry of Education that indicated it lacked qualified teachers and did not meet the minimum standards.

The school that had 380 students opened in 2008 as an institution for preparing private candidates to sit for national examinations. It later started admitting students from senior four to six.

According to the report, the school lacked the necessary infrastructure including labs and a library. It also lacked proper ventilation in the classrooms.

The Vice Mayor, Pascal Butunge, said that the school was given a license to only train private candidates.

"When the district committee inspected the school, we discovered that their quality was poor, its closure came after the ministry inspected the entire school and its services, including the teachers,’’ Butunge said.

The school which has 14 teachers had departments of accountancy, tourism and construction.
When contacted, the school’s director, Shadrach Uwimana, refused to comment. 

"It’s very difficult to find another school,” said one of the students.  J Pierre Hategekimana, a senior five at the school.

"We came to resume studies only to find a note that the school is closed. Most of the schools don’t want to admit candidate students, we are appealing to the district to help us get space in other schools’’.
